The techniques used to create the products that make up this shop have been used for hundreds of years.  When you support Equal Uprise, it helps ensure that the ancient methods used to create these items continue to be passed down to newer generations.  Our collective effort will help prevent the artistic labor used by each artisan from being lost.

Below you'll find the hardworking individuals that hand craft the items in the shop.  Enjoy.

LEATHER - Cotacachi, Ecuador

Alessandre was born and raised in Cotacachi.  This skilled artisan has been studying and working with leather for over 20 years.  Every piece he produces is hand made using the finest Ecuadorian leather.  Alessandre believes in the importance of fair wages.  He was excited to share with us that he pays his employees more than his competitors because he understands the importance of benefiting as a group rather than individuals.

HATS - Otavalo, Ecuador

Our beautiful and durable hats are hand crafted in the small village of Iluman, Ecuador by artisans like Maritza.  These hats are made from raw materials found in the region.  The hats are placed on a wooden mold and shaped by hand.  The same method the indigenous people of Ecuador have been using for decades to craft the hats they use to protect themselves from weather changes in the Andes.

PILLOW COVERS - Otavalo, Ecuador

Olga and Mercedes are the mother and daughter team behind our beautiful pillow covers.  These two weave a variety of patterns to create unique and relevant designs.  Just like our rugs and ponchos, the wool fibers that make up our pillow covers are dyed by using plants, fruits an vegetables in the area.
